Board of Directors
Mr. Ahmed Al Qassim is Group Head / Senior Executive Vice President, Head of Corporate & Institutional Banking. He is responsible for corporate and institutional coverage across UAE and international branches and in leading the product development and implementation for trade, cash, Investment banking, Islamic products and lending. He has a mandate in enhancing digital adoption, customer experience and the use of AI in the business.
Ahmed has extensive experience in investment banking and structured finance, working for leading local and international investment companies. He was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Emirates NBD Capital Ltd (EMCAP), The CEO of Dubai Group, a Dubai Holding entity, and member of the Board of Bank Muscat, Shuaa Capital, EFG-Hermes and Sun Hung Kai. Ahmed has previously held senior roles at General Electric and Mubadala - GE Capital.
In his tenure as GM Corporate Banking at Emirates NBD and previously as CEO of EMCAP, Ahmed was able to transform the units, building on the capabilities and creating synergies in cross-functional teams. He inculcated the principles of risk management while remaining relevant to the client.
Having started his career as an engineer at the 14th largest mobile network operator in the world, he completed his MBA from University of Victoria in Canada.
Mr. Jassim is currently the Managing Director of Al Ali Property Investments. He has extensive professional experience, his main approach around directing and controlling the company’s operations and give strategic guidance and direction to the Chairman of the Company to achieve its mission and objectives.
He is Board member of Emaar Properties P.J.S.C., member of the Audit Committee and Risk Committee, he is also a board member of Jebel Ali Cement Factory.
Mr. Jassim holds a Business Administration Degree in Public Administration from American University of Sharjah.
Mr.Maurice Gravier is Chief Investment Officer, Wealth Management at Emirates NBD, responsible for providing Emirates NBD's private banking and retail clientele with comprehensive financial advisory and valuable guidance on investment strategies.
Gravier started his investment career at Natixis Asset Management in 1999 as Portfolio Manager before being appointed Managing Director and CIO of the Active Equity franchise in 2007, overseeing US$ 25bn of client assets, gaining recognition from international consultants and institutions and strong ratings from Lipper, S&P and Citywire.
Gravier's vast 20-year experience in wealth management also includes leading positions in global financial institutions including Lombard Odier Private Banking in Switzerland, where he was head of equity portfolio management and strategy.
Gravier was most recently Executive Director for investments at UAE-based family investment office, Majid Al Futtaim Trust. Gravier is a French national with a Masters in Management from ESCP Europe in Paris.
Marwan joined Emirates NBD as Head of Retail Banking, UAE in 2019. In his current role, Marwan successfully contributed to the delivery of UAE retail banking business & market share growth by overseeing segments, product & propositions, and retail distribution & sales.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD, Marwan worked for HSBC Bank Middle East Limited where he held various leadership roles in Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM) and Commercial Banking Business (CMB).
During his 14-year tenure with HSBC he held several key senior leadership roles which included Managing Director, HSBC Middle East Finance Company, Head of Business Management CMB UAE and Head of Network RBWM MENA. In addition to his last role as the Head of RBWM UAE, where he shaped and executed a successful strategy that led to historic shift towards growth of the business in two consecutive years, after a consistent five-year declining trend.
Marwan previously served as the Chairman of UAE Banks Federation (UBF) Consumer Banking Committee, as well as on the Board of Director of HSBC Middle East Finance Company.
Marwan holds master’s in international business from University of Wollongong Dubai.
Shari'a Board
Dr. Elgari holds the distinction of being a Former Professor of Islamic Economics at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Former Director of the Center for Research in Islamic Economics, at the same university. He is an Expert at the Islamic Jurisprudence Academy of the OIC and the Islamic Jurisprudence Academy of the Islamic World League. Dr. Elgari is also a member of the Board of Trustees of AAOFI as well as their Shari’ah counsel. He is a distinguished member of the editorial board of several academic publications in the field of Islamic Finance and Jurisprudence.
Dr. Elgari is also chairman and member of numerous Shari’ah boards of Islamic banks and Takaful companies worldwide. He has authored several books in Islamic finance and has published tens of articles on the subject, both in Arabic and English. Dr. Elgari is also a frequent speaker at conferences worldwide. He holds a PhD from the University of California.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahim Sultan Al Olama is a professor of jurisprudence and its fundamentals at the College of Law at the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain, in addition to being a certified expert in financial affairs concerning compliance with Islamic Shari’ah principles. Notably, he leads the Shari’ah committee at the Zakat Fund in the United Arab Emirates.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahim Sultan Al Olama has published books and articles on various jurisprudential topics, particularly Islamic banking in its contemporary form. He has also presented a series of research papers in various international forums and conferences related to this sector. He is a member of a number of Fatwa and Shari’ah supervisory boards for Islamic financial institutions and Takaful companies. These include Emirates Islamic Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank, Takaful House and Mawarid Finance Company.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahim Sultan Al Olama holds a PhD in Comparative Islamic Jurisprudence from Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Salim Ali Al-Ali is an assistant professor at the Department of Shari’ah and Islamic Studies at the College of Law at the United Arab Emirates University, where he teaches a spectrum of courses related to Islamic law and Islamic banking. He was educated in the United Kingdom, where he received his PhD in Financial Law from the University of London. He holds a Bachelor’s in Shari’ah (Jurisprudence and its Fundamentals) and a Master’s in Islamic Banking and Finance. Dr. Al-Ali was also a part-time lecturer for the LLM program at the BPP Law School, BPP University, based in London, where he lectured on a broad spectrum of jurisprudence matters, including Islamic, English, and comparative laws.
Apart from his academic experience, he is a member of the internal Shari’ah Supervisory Committee for a number of institutions offering Islamic financial services including Emirates NBD, HSBC, and Abu Dhabi First Bank. He participated in a number of international conferences on various issues pertaining to the law of Islamic finance, Islamic financial products, and the legal and regulatory aspects of developing Islamic financial markets, including those held by Harvard University and the University of Cambridge. He is an author of a book titled ‘Raising Capital on Sukuk Markets: Structural, Legal and Regulatory Issues’.
Dr. Muhammad Qaseem is a well-known Shari’ah scholar and Islamic banking expert. He is the Chairman of the Shari’ah Board of Deutsche Bank Malaysia and Emaan Islamic Banking of Silk Bank Ltd. He is also a member of the ISSC of Dubai Islamic Bank, ENBD and some other institutions.
Dr. Qaseem has also served as Shari’ah Board member of Central Bank of Pakistan, DFM, ADCB and many other Islamic banks.
Dr. Qaseem has taught in International Islamic University of Islamabad for more than 2 decades. He has contributed immensely to the growth and regulation of the Islamic banking industry in various capacities. He has also made valuable efforts for dissemination of Islamic banking knowledge through lectures, trainings, seminars, conferences and workshops. He has written numerous articles on Islamic banking issues and developed policies and manuals for Islamic banks.
Dr. Amin Fateh holds a bachelor’s and Master's in honorable Hadith, and a PhD in Islamic studies. He has been part of the Islamic Banking industry ever since its early stages in 1988, initially contributing to the Shari’ah compliance function of Kuwait Finance House. Across the years he has work with many of the most prominent Shari’ah scholars in the field. For more than a decade he has lead Islamic Shari’ah advisory Minhaj. He is currently a member of a number of Shari’ah Boards and committees in UAE and across the world, including ENBD-Islamic, EIB and the AAOIFI Shari’ah Committee in UAE. He lectured in many universities and is a profound bilingual Islamic Finance trainer who has provided many Islamic Finance training courses across the world.
Executive Management
As Senior Executive Officer, Steve leads Emirates NBD's Asset Management business. He has over 25 years' experience in investment distribution in the UK, Middle East and Far East and has been resident in Dubai since 2001. Prior to becoming SEO, Steve led the institutional sales team, with additional responsibility for wholesale channel distributors such as insurance companies, private banks and wealth advisers.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management in 2010, Steve worked with a number of regional institutions, holding roles including General Manager (ME) for Anglo Irish Bank (IOM) PLC, Sales Director for Amiri Capital and Business Development Director at Dow Jones International.
He is a member of the Institute of Directors, the London Institute of Banking & Finance and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments and is a Board member of Emirates NBD SICAV, Emirates NBD Fund Managers (Jersey) Ltd and Emirates NBD AM SPC.
Lovesh heads the business support and strategy function of Emirates NBD Asset Management an entity regulated by the DFSA. He holds the status of an “Authorized Person” in capacity as Finance Officer for Emirates NBD Asset Management Limited and Investor Relations Officer for ENBD REIT (CEIC) Ltd.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, he was with Emirates Financial Services and HDFC Bank Limited, where he gained experience within finance and operations in the fields of asset management, investment banking and fund accounting.
Lovesh holds a Master's degree in Business Administration, specializing in Finance and Marketing, and a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment, UK (CISI). He is also a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist with the Association of Anti-Money Laundering Specialists.
He is currently a Director on Emirates NBD SICAV, Emirates Funds Limited, Emirates Portfolio Management PCC and Investment Relations Officer for ENBD REIT (CEIC) LTD.
Ajit heads the operations team at Emirates NBD Asset Management and is responsible for its effective, efficient and compliant functioning. He also oversees the risk and IT functions in the firm. Ajit has over 20 years' experience, of which 14 years have been in the field of treasury, investment and asset management operations.
Ajit is responsible for managing a number of diverse operational activities for the business in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements and International best practice, as well as Group policies. He has been actively involved in the management of both the Jersey and Luxembourg Funds for the last 10 years, including providing specialist operational expertise in development of new funds, the updating of the prospectus and working with key stakeholders to ensure the product offering is appropriate for our client base.
He is also responsible for overseeing the management of service deliverables with all our key service providers including the fund administrator, custodian, transfer agent and the management company across both our Jersey and Luxembourg fund platforms.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, Ajit was at Mashreq Bank, where he gained experience in the field of remittances, treasury, investment banking and asset management.
Ajit holds a Master's degree in Commerce and Business Administration and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), UK holding a Level 6 qualification. He is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist with the Association of Anti-Money Laundering Specialists and Operational Risk Manager from PRMIA (Professional Risk Manager's International Association), United States. He is a Professional Member of the Institute of Operational Risk in the UK and currently serves on the Board of Emirates NBD Fund Managers (Jersey) Limited, Emirates Funds Limited, Emirates Portfolio Management PCC and Emirates NBD SICAV.
Scott has over 25 years’ experience in the asset management industry, the last 13 of which he has spent at Emirates NBD Asset Management, where he has worked with the in house multi asset team as well as helping to oversee the multi asset portfolios that have been delegated to Jupiter Asset Management in London. In addition, Scott looks after the execution of fund trades for the Emirates NBD CIO Signature Funds.
Scott also oversees the risk and portfolio analytics for the full range of funds that are managed by Emirates NBD Asset Management. He is responsible for oversight of the risk management of the portfolios, as well as portfolio performance, benchmarking and attribution.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, Scott worked for 2 years in the risk and performance team at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, a USD 150 billion pension fund. Previously, he worked for 10 years at Franklin Templeton Investments, where he was responsible for cash management of the Franklin Templeton portfolios. Scott holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Miami and a B.S. in Finance from Florida Atlantic University.
Portfolio Managers
Angad is Head of Fixed Income at Emirates NBD Asset Management, having previously been Senior Portfolio Manager since October 2014. He has been with the business for more than nine years, having joined in 2010 as a Senior Credit Analyst. Angad is the lead manager for the UCITS-compliant MENA Fixed Income Fund and the Global Sukuk Fund, which earned the Fixed Income Fund of the Year award at MENA Fund Manager Awards 2020, and associate manager for Emirates Emerging Market Debt Fund.
He has also had an active part in doubling Fixed Income Assets Under Management (AUM) since 2013 – to almost USD 2 billion for year-end 2019.
Prior to joining the team, Angad worked as a senior sell-side equity research analyst at Prime Emirates, a UAE based subsidiary of Egypt’s Prime Holding from 2008 to 2010. Prior to this Angad worked as an Associate in Financial Services Advisory at Ernst & Young in New York and a Financial Analyst at Real Value Investments in Mumbai. He holds an MBA from the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University in New York and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting and Auditing from the University of Mumbai. Angad has CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Emirates Society.
Anthony has over ten years' experience within the institutional real estate market. He was appointed Head of Real Estate in 2018 having previously been Fund Manager, Real Estate at Emirates NBD Asset Management since 2012. He has had a key part in building ENBD REIT's institutional portfolio and its subsequent listing on the Nasdaq Dubai in March 2017. Prior to Emirates NBD Asset Management, Anthony was an Asset Manager at Public Investment Corporation (South Africa) managers to Africa's largest government pension fund, and prior to that a Professional Valuer at Old Mutual Properties (South Africa). He is a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS), a registered valuer and holds Bachelor of Science Honours in Property Studies from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
Parth Kikani joined the Emirates NBD Asset Management Fixed Income team in 2013. In his role as Director of Fixed Income and Senior Portfolio Manager, he is directly responsible for managing over USD 225 million in public funds, as well as a range of discretionary portfolios on behalf of institutional clients investing in regional and broader emerging markets fixed income. Parth also manages the Emirates Emerging Market Debt Fund, a Morningstar rated fund, which has consistently delivered top quartile performance when compared to international peers.
Active in the regional Asset Management industry for over a decade, Parth has developed a strong experience analysing and covering Emerging Markets bonds and securities. Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, he was part of the team managing Dubai Group’s Global Emerging Markets Portfolio and held assistant portfolio manager and analyst roles for Al Mal Capital and Emirates Financial Services.
Parth is a CFA charter holder, chartered accountant and has completed his MBA from SP Jain Centre of Management, majoring in Investment Banking.
Chandru is Senior Portfolio Manager on the Emirates NBD Asset Management Fixed Income team, primarily focusing on the firm’s GCC bonds and global sukuk mandates. Apart from his portfolio management responsibilities, Chandru oversees the desk’s research efforts with his primary focus on Asian bonds and sukuk and is associate manager on the Emirates Global Sukuk Fund. Chandru Bhatia joined in September 2018.
Chandru previously spent 11 years at Rasmala Investment Bank (Dubai) as lead manager for the Rasmala GCC Fixed Income Fund, as well as a number of conventional bond and sukuk discretionary mandates. Before joining Rasmala, he spent 3 years as an analyst at Credit Suisse in New York.
Chandru holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master in Finance from Heriot Watt University. He has successfully completed the Moody’s Analytics Certification in Commercial Credit (CICC) qualification, which is focused on credit assessment and risk management.
Richard is the lead manager for Emirates World Opportunities Fund and associate manager on Emirates MENA Top Companies Fund. Additionally, he runs discretionary mandates for several regional institutions and supports High Net Worth Individuals achieve their investment targets. A member of the team since 2007, Richard played a key role in establishing and growing the in-house research team capacity and capabilities.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, Richard was head of research at AmanahRaya Investment Management, an asset manager owned by a Malaysian sovereign wealth fund. He also held various research roles over a six-year period at CIMB Group, one of the largest Asian investment banks and one of the world's largest Islamic banks.
A CFA charter holder since 2000, Richard actively volunteers on various initiatives at the CFA Institute and the investment community in the region.
Dipanjan joined in October 2018 as Head of Research, MENA Equities. He is lead manager on Emirates MENA Top Companies Fund and Emirates World Opportunities Fund. Additionally, he manages equity portfolios and leads the MENA equity research team. Dipanjan has over 12 years’ experience as a portfolio manager and research analyst covering multiples sectors in the MENA region and has worked with a regional bank, an institutional asset manager and a large single family office.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, Dipanjan was a portfolio manager at AWJ Holding in Riyadh, covering Saudi Arabian Equities. He also held various Buy and Sell Side Roles at A/T Capital in Dubai and Bank Saudi Fransi in Riyadh.
Dipanjan is a CFA charter holder and has completed his Master’s degree in Business Administration.
Bindu has over 13 years’ experience at Emirates NBD Asset Management, on the money market, multi-asset and fixed income desk. She is the lead manager for the Emirates Islamic Money Market Fund and the associate manager for Emirates Islamic Global Balanced Fund. Bindu is responsible for managing over USD 1.15 billion between the fund and segregated money market mandates.
Prior to joining Emirates NBD Asset Management, Bindu worked for 9 years at American President Lines as Regional Business Analyst for the West Asia region. She holds an MBA in Marketing from the School of Management Studies, Cochin University and a B.A. in Economics from M.G University, India.
Discretionary Portfolio Services
Our fund managers will create a customized investment solution for you, keeping in mind your risk return appetite and requirements. An upfront discussion to understand the client's needs will help to drive the choice of asset classes leading to a set of mutually agreed guidelines. The fund manager will then exercise their discretion to meet the portfolio's return objectives while providing regular updates to the client.
Non-Discretionary Services
In this type of arrangement the client has a greater degree of participation in the ongoing management of their investments. In such cases we will regularly contact the client to discuss investment matters before agreeing on next steps, with no transactions being conducted without the client's express approval. Responsibility for the portfolio and decision making thereby remains with the client.
